Task Description : | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Objectives of the task : | Develop a method to identify and prioritise risk mitigation options, based on risk reduction effectiveness, and produce accompanying guidance. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Expected outcome : |
Revised guidelines |

Compelling need : |
The IALA Risk Management toolbox tools can help the user evaluate potential risk mitigation options. There is no explicit guidance or methodology regarding risk reduction effectiveness of risk mitigation options nor is there explicit guidance on selecting risk mitigation options based on wider criteria such as costs Due to local context, it may be unrealistic to globally define the effects of, e.g., a VTS system versus a physical atoN system implementation on risk reduction. Therefore, the suggested approach is to develop a methodology to assist toolbox users to relatively define how much risk reduction on their specific waterway may occur for a certain risk mitigation option |

Strategic Alignment : | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Scope : |
• Methodology that • Provides a examples of risk mitigation options related to typical risk • Facilitates comparison of the risk reduction effectiveness of risk mitigation option • Assists risk mitigation option selection based on risk reduction effectiveness and other information (e.g., cost, policy, accountability • WWA develop training module for inclusion in Risk/L1.1/Procurement courses based on a new Guideline In Scope • Initially, with reference to the existing qualitative methodologies within the IALA Risk Management Toolbox, and appendix of the FS • Generic solutions as a basis of discussion, e.g., use of physical AtoN system vs virtual AtoN, not a comparison of steel vs polyethylene buoys |
